MY DAUGHER IS STILL VIRGIN SAYS RAPPER TI: To validate her virginity, I take my daughter to the gynaecologist, T.I. says

Every year, Rapper T.I. brings his teenage daughter to the gynecologist to check that her hymen is "still intact," he said during a Tuesday podcast.

In the "Ladies Like Us" podcast with Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham, T.I., whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., discussed aspects of the review. The rapper invoked his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, who he says has just begun her first year of college when the conversation turned to parenting and "sex talk."
"We celebrate right after her birthday, then like the day after the party, she usually enjoys the gifts, and I put a sticky note on the door: ' Tomorrow. 9:30, ' said he.
After her 16th birthday, Harris began her annual trips to the gynecologist to "check her hymen," he said. Some people believe that until a woman has sex, the hymen, a thin membrane at the vagina's opening, remains intact. Medical experts have debunked this false measure of virginity, and human rights organizations have found "virginity screening" both unethical and detrimental to women.
His story continues, T.I. The doctor of his daughter said that she had to sign a waiver allowing him to see the results of her exam.
"So we'll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk and keep a high level of professionalism from the doctor," T.I. That's what I said. "He's like,' Well you know, sir, I have to share information,' I'm like,' Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. You wouldn't want me to know anything? Look, Doc? No question at all.'
Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, also known as HIPAA, a physician may discuss the health status or treatment of a patient "if the patient agrees, or if the opportunity is given, does not object."
The rapper indicated that the gynecologist of his daughter also explained other ways in which a hymen could become stretched open, such as riding a bike, riding horseback or other physical activities.

"I'm thinking, ' Look doc — she doesn't ride horses, she doesn't ride bikes, she doesn't play sports, guy — just check the hymen, please, and send me my results promptly. ' He said, ' I'm going to say, her hymen is still intact from her 18th birthday. '
Mandi and Moham chuckled throughout the episode, and at one stage one of the hosts yelled, "Someone search Deyjah, she's a prisoner in her house." T.I's remarks went viral on Wednesday, as many expressed concern regarding his commentary's analysis and command. He and the publicists of Harris did not respond to The Washington Post's emails asking for comment, though BuzzFeed News reported that Harris liked several tweets Wednesday condemning her son, one of which called the situation "disgusting, possessive and oppressive." Responding to the story on Twitter, California OB / GYN Jen Gunter said it was "horrible" and offered a thorough explanation of why the hymen is not a valid way to gage the virginity of a woman.
"The hymen is not an indicator of virginity, 50% of sexually active adolescents have no hymen disrupted," she wrote. "Often the hymen is very flexible."

Jenn Jackson, an assistant professor of political science at Syracuse University, found T.I's anecdote particularly troubling as someone who damaged her hymen while riding a bicycle at the age of 11. She said the experience of Harris probably resonates with many women, particularly religious black women, who are led to believe that their sexual organs are bound to their value and self-worth.
Such women are often told they need to be "simple" and "intact" for someone to love them, as if engaging in sexual activity means something is wrong with them, Jackson said, who also performs work in black culture, gender and sexuality.
"[ Harris ] is an adult — she can do as much as she wants — so why is she still investing in her body?" Said Jackson. "These are the types of ways in which young girls are socialized to understand that they do not belong to their bodies, that they are a possession of society."
It's T.I. It might also be dangerous to follow Harris to her gynecologist appointments, Jackson said. At that age, most women have concerns or questions that they are less likely to ask in the room with an adult.
"Now she will have to do the job on her own," said Jackson. "That's the risk: so many girls end up unlearning and re-learning to live comfortably in our own bodies." Planned Parenthood appeared to respond to T.I. In Wednesday afternoon's own series of tweets, Writing, "[ I don't know ] who needs to hear this, but virginity is a social structure made up, and it has nothing to do with your hymen."
Numerous organizations of the United Nations, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations Human Rights and the United Nations, will be in 2018. Girls, made a global appeal for a complete ban on virginity tests. They called the procedure "medically unnecessary, and often painful, humiliating, and traumatic," which has been documented in at least 20 countries.
Virginity screening is not only unethical, they said, but does not have any science or medical basis.

"No medical or scientific concept is the word ' virginity.' Instead, the concept of' virginity' is a social, cultural and religious structure that reflects gender discrimination against women and girls, "wrote the World Health Organization last year.
"To carry out this medically unnecessary and harmful test infringes several human rights and ethical standards including the basic principle of ' do no harm ' in medicine. Under no circumstances should this test be carried out.
